How to Install and Activate Parallels Desktop 20
Step 1: Install Parallels Desktop
1. Download Parallels Desktop.
2. Sign out of your Parallels account completely.
3. Open Terminal and run the following command to set permissions and install:
chmod +x install.sh && chmod +x Launch\ Parallels.command && sudo ./install.sh4. Double-click the
Launch Parallels.commandfile to start the app.(Note: You will always need to use this launcher to prevent signature errors. If you are a developer with com.apple.vm.* permissions or are willing to disable System Integrity Protection, there are other workarounds available.)
Step 2: Troubleshooting Common Errors
* “Operation not permitted” Error: Go to System Settings ▸ Privacy & Security ▸ Full Disk Access and enable access for Terminal.
* “Codesign error”: Make sure Xcode Command Line Tools are installed. Run
xcode-select --installin Terminal. Check the installation withxcode-select -p.Step 3: Block Parallels Servers (Hosts File)
To keep the app working, you need to block its servers. Add the following lines to your
/etc/hostsfile:127.0.0.1 download.parallels.com

Important: Parallels will try to uncomment these lines automatically. You must lock your hosts file to prevent this. Run this in Terminal:
sudo chflags uchg /etc/hosts && sudo chflags schg /etc/hosts(To unlock it later, use:
sudo chflags nouchg /etc/hosts && sudo chflags noschg /etc/hosts)Step 4: Downloading Operating Systems
Because you blocked the servers, you won’t be able to download new OS images directly in the Control Center. If you need to download an OS, temporarily comment out these specific lines in your hosts file by adding a
#:# 127.0.0.1 download.parallels.com
# 127.0.0.1 desktop.parallels.com
# 127.0.0.1 download.parallels.com.cdn.cloudflare.net
# 127.0.0.1 desktop.parallels.com.cdn.cloudflare.net
Once your download is finished, remember to remove the
#to block them again!
