Smart Care before the side tools

After you drag the app from its disk image into Applications, start with Smart Care. One scan runs five jobs that used to live apart in the older X lineup: junk, threats, performance, software updates, and duplicate downloads. The results list is the decision screen. MacPaw says the cleaner targets caches, logs, leftovers, and clutter, and that you check the rows before removal. A full disk is not a reason to accept every line.

When that pass is too broad, use the sidebar. Cleanup covers system junk, caches, logs, and mail attachments. Protection runs the Moonlock Engine at Quick, Normal, or Deep depth and also lists app permissions and recent-item privacy data. MacPaw states this is not a replacement for dedicated antivirus software. Performance manages login items, background processes, and maintenance tasks. Apple silicon Macs have no Free Up RAM control; memory figures sit in the menu-bar Menu. Applications removes a program with its leftovers, clears old installers, and checks for updates. The app list fills while scanning continues, so you can uninstall without waiting for every leftover to be indexed.

Personal files and cloud copies

My Clutter surfaces personal files: large items, duplicates, similar photos, and old downloads. Space Lens draws folders as size-sorted bubbles so a buried directory is easier to open than in Finder list view. Cloud Cleanup signs in to iCloud Drive, Google Drive, Dropbox, and OneDrive. You can delete a cloud file, drop the copy on both the Mac and the cloud, or unsync so only the Mac copy goes away. Those steps need the account connected, and they are easy to over-apply when two Macs share one library.

My Tools pins the uninstaller, downloads, duplicate finder, updater, and permissions behind a search field. My Activity shows space cleared, items scanned, and a rough time-saved figure. The bell opens Notification Center for product messages. Each of those paths still ends on a confirmation.

Trial, plan, and the older X license

The direct build needs macOS 11 or later, about 320 MB free, and a display of at least 1200 by 800 pixels. Full Disk Access lets the scan see caches outside a sandbox, and background items for Health Monitor, an agent, and an updater stay loaded. A seven-day trial unlocks the modules. Afterward, scans may continue, but cleanup, optimization, and duplicate removal stay locked until purchase. The US store lists 39.95 dollars a year for one Mac, shown as 3.33 dollars a month, 9.95 dollars monthly, and a 119.95 dollar one-time license limited to the current major version. Eligible direct purchases include a 30-day money-back window. The Mac App Store edition omits part of Performance. Setapp is another route if you already pay for that bundle.
